Nutrition for Chronic Conditions
You’re trying to take care of yourself… but it’s not so simple.
Managing your health takes effort. Maybe you’re dealing with high cholesterol, blood sugar concerns, blood pressure changes, PCOS, or gut issues like IBS, or something else. And it can feel like there’s no clear way forward.
- You’ve been told to lose weight.
- To cut carbs.
- To go low-fat.
- To stop eating foods you enjoy.
- To track everything.
- To take this medication… and then eat a certain way to manage the side effects.
But what if improving your health didn’t require extremes, or constant stress?
You’re in the right place if…
You’ve tried “eating healthy,” but nothing sticks, or it quickly turns into another diet.
Your doctor flagged a lab or diagnosed a condition (like high cholesterol, A1c, blood pressure, PCOS, or IBS), and now you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start.
You want to feel better in your body without spiraling into restriction, guilt, or all-or-nothing rules.
You’re taking or considering medications like GLP-1s and want professional guidance to support your nutrition.
You care deeply about your long-term health AND you’re ready for sustainable change that feels doable and compassionate.
What if you knew how to manage your health without resorting to unsustainable dietary extremes?

Why Work With Me
Hi! I’m Marissa Beck, MS, RDN, and since 2009, I have experience helping people navigate chronic disease with evidence-based nutrition.
But my approach is anything but one-size-fits-all… Take a look below.
You’ll get clinical expertise
With a Master’s in Nutrition & Exercise Physiology and years of experience delivering Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) in clinical settings, I know how to interpret labs, coordinate with providers, and guide you through evidence-based nutrition plans for complex needs, whether it’s high cholesterol, PCOS, blood sugar instability, or IBS.
You’ll get someone who’s worked in hospitals to high-tech.
As a former corporate wellness dietitian for companies like Nintendo and PRO Club with Microsoftees, I’ve supported high-performing teams under immense stress. I understand how demanding modern life can be, and I’m here to help you build habits that work in the real world, not just on paper.
You’ll get both medical care and mindset work.
Many of my clients have a long history of dieting, food fear, or shame tied to their diagnosis. That’s why I use a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach to help you heal your relationship with food while working on metabolic health, energy, and symptom management.
You won’t have someone micromanaging your plate.
I’m here to support your life.
We’ll focus on building patterns that support your health without rigid rules.
If you’re tired of mixed messages and just want to feel better, I’d love to be your partner in that process.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“My A1C dropped and I’m not dieting.”
I’ve been prediabetic for years and assumed the only way to go was low-carb and cut sugar out. Marissa took a different approach. She helped me keep a lot more than I thought and I now understand how my meals actually affect my blood sugar. I do not skip meals (which really does make things worse). My A1C dropped, and I feel more in control.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“Working with Marissa helped me get the most out of my GLP-1 treatment without the side effects.”
When I started my GLP-1, I didn’t realize how hard it would be to eat regularly or get enough nutrients. I was skipping meals, feeling nauseous, and honestly afraid of food. Marissa helped me find a rhythm that worked with my new appetite. She made sure I was getting enough protein, fiber, and fluids and helped me understand what was normal vs. concerning. I’ve lost weight, I feel stronger, less anxious, and more in tune with my body than I have in years.

FAQ
Have questions? Explore the FAQ below or reach out and let’s chat!
Do you help with multiple conditions at once?
Yes, many clients are managing more than one concern (e.g., PCOS and A1c, or IBS and high cholesterol). I take an integrative, layered approach that won’t overwhelm you.
Will you put me on a restrictive diet?
Nope.
We may implement certain evidence-based strategies (e.g., gentle carb distribution, fiber goals, Low FODMAP temporarily), but the focus is always on sustainability, not rigidity.
Will you make me track my food?
No. Not unless you want to.
Food tracking isn’t required in my practice. For many people, it causes more stress than it helps. Instead, I use visual tools and flexible strategies that support body cues, routine, and balanced eating without calorie counting or food logs.
That said, if you enjoy tracking and it helps you feel grounded (especially with understanding what you are eating or symptom management), we can incorporate it in a way that supports your goals without contributing to obsession or guilt.
Can I still care about weight while doing this work?
Absolutely. We won’t ignore weight or appearance concerns, we’ll just focus on healing your dietary patterns and supporting your health in more holistic, effective ways.
Do you work with kids or teens with these issues?
Yes, I support pediatric clients and their families. Learn more on my Pediatric Nutrition page.
Do you understand my cultural foods? I don’t want to be told to stop eating the foods I grew up with.
You don’t ever have to give up your cultural foods to support your health.
I’ve worked with clients from all backgrounds, including South Asian, East Asian, Middle Eastern, Latinx, African, Eastern European, and multiracial households, and I fully believe that your food heritage belongs in your health plan.
We’ll never minimize your meals to “plain chicken and salad.” I’ll help you make adjustments that feel respectful, satisfying, and aligned with your health goals without losing the joy, flavor, or traditions that matters to you.
If you are unsure where your traditional foods fit into your diagnosis or condition (like diabetes, PCOS, high cholesterol, etc.), I promise you I will help you find a way that works without cutting out your fave foods.
Do I need a referral to use insurance?
It depends on your plan. Many insurance companies require a physician referral for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to be covered, especially for chronic conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, or digestive concerns.
If you’re unsure, I can guide you through the process and provide a simple referral template to bring to your provider.
Bonus tip: Whether or not we’re billing your insurance, I still recommend gathering any recent labs, diagnoses, or progress notes. It helps us tailor your plan from the start.
Visit my Insurance & Fees page to learn more and grab my cheat sheet to check your personal benefits.
Do you accept Medicare?
Unfortunately, I do not accept Medicare at this time.
If you’re looking to use Medicare benefits for nutrition counseling, I recommend visiting www.eatright.org to find a Medicare-approved provider near you.
That said, many of my clients choose to pay out of pocket in order to work with me directly. If that’s your choice, we’ll need to sign a Medicare Private Contract before our first session, as required by law, which I will provide to you. This simply confirms that you understand Medicare won’t reimburse for services with non-participating providers like me.
If you have questions or want help navigating your options, feel free to contact me directly.
What does the process look like after I book?
After you fill out the inquiry form, I’ll review your info to ensure we’re a good fit. If it looks like I can support your goals, I’ll reach out to schedule a welcome call (this is a brief, no-pressure logistics chat, not a sales pitch) or, if you just want to get started ASAP, then:
-
We’ll get you booked for your first session, which is 60-75 minutes and includes a thorough intake of your health history, current concerns, and priorities.
-
I’ll review any relevant labs, doctor notes, or diagnoses you’ve provided.
-
We’ll set a personalized plan that feels realistic and flexible, from day one.
Ongoing sessions are 45-55 minutes and focused on building habits, reviewing progress, and adjusting goals as needed. We move at your pace.
Still not sure? Head to my Insurance and Fees page on what to expect.
What if I haven’t had labs done recently, or in quite some time?
That’s totally okay, and I can help.
If you don’t have recent lab work (or don’t even know what labs are relevant), I’m able to order a variety of labs directly, depending on your condition and concerns. This may include panels for:
- Blood sugar (A1C, fasting glucose)
- Lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides)
- Nutrient levels (vitamin D, iron, B12, etc.)
- Inflammation or thyroid markers, as appropriate
We’ll review your results together and use them to shape your nutrition plan without guessing or going down rabbit holes.
If you already have labs from another provider, I’m happy to review those too.
Do you recommend supplements or help with figuring out what I need?
Yes, and only when it makes sense.
I take a food-first approach and won’t throw unnecessary pills your way. But when supplements are warranted (due to lab values, dietary gaps, or specific conditions), I’ll:
- Review what you’re already taking (including over-the-counter and prescribed)
- Recommend only evidence-based options
- Give you access to my Fullscript dispensary for high-quality supplements at a discount
- Offer optional custom vitamin packs through a partner service, for those who prefer a simplified routine
You’ll always get a clear rationale for why something is recommended. And never pressured into anything that doesn’t feel right for you.
What if I feel ashamed about my food habits?
You don’t need to hide that here.
Many of my clients come in feeling stuck, guilty, or ashamed about their eating patterns, especially if they’ve been dealing with health conditions like high blood sugar, cholesterol issues, or GI distress.
Whether you’re:
- Hiding food,
- Eating emotionally,
- Starting over every Monday,
- Or feel “out of control” with certain foods…
There’s always a reason behind the pattern. I’m here to help you explore it with compassion, not judgment. My job isn’t to shame you; it’s to support you.
I will help you unpack what’s really going on and build a way of eating that feels more doable, respectful, and grounded.
Don’t wait to take care of your health.
There is no better time than the present. You just have to take the first step.
