NON-DIET NUTRITION
1:1 Counseling for Adults & Teens
Your dreams are distinctly you—so the way you eat should be, too.
Let’s Make Food Work For You—Not Against You
What’s Non-Diet Nutrition?
This approach prioritizes mindful eating over restrictive dieting. Its main goals are to promote overall well-being and support sustainable eating behaviors without the pressure of weight loss.
Non-diet nutrition therapy is designed to empower you to achieve your goals while embracing your unique body and fostering a sustainable, joyful relationship with food.
Non-diet Nutrition Specialties:
Without restrictive diets and meal plans.
Cardiovascular health
Hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipidemia, hypertension and heart disease prevention.
Blood glucose management
Types I and II diabetes, pre-diabetes and gestational diabetes.
Sports nutrition
Evaluation of energy demands as it relates to seasonal training and performance.
Chronic disease management
Using Health At Every Size (HAES®) and anti-inflammatory diet approaches, I honor cultural food preferences, focus on diet quality and other nutrition-focused behaviors that are strong indicators of overall health (e.g., mindfulness, body awareness, and food environment).
Disordered eating intervention
With a gentle approach using the intuitive eating framework, I help repair impaired relationships with food when clients are experiencing any of the following: chronic weight fluctuations, frequently skipping meals, have anxiety/guilt/shame associated with certain foods, have rigid ritualistic behaviors surrounding food and exercise, and either orthorexia or Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder (OSFED). It is strongly encouraged that clients seek additional intervention with a licensed mental health therapist trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in conjunction with this medical nutrition therapy.
Eating disorder recovery
I am an integral part of patients’ medical teams in the treatment and recovery of eating disorders. I provide outpatient care for patients under continuous medical supervision with their physician and ED-therapist and who have been clinically diagnosed with anorexia, bulimia, or binge-eating disorder. In order to start services, I require that your Physician/Practitioner submit a referral using my MNT referral form.
Intuitive eating
Intuitive Eating is an approach that encourages listening to your body’s natural hunger and fullness cues, promoting a healthy relationship with food. It focuses on eating without guilt or restrictions, embracing a balanced approach to nourishment that honors both physical and emotional well-being.
Non-Diet Nutrition Therapy is for you if:
You’re tired of dieting
You’ve tried countless times and feel frustrated with the cycle of restriction, bingeing and temporary results.
You want to improve your relationship with food
You’re want to cultivate a more positive and intuitive approach to eating, free from guilt, shame and the pressures of diet culture.
You struggle with disordered eating patterns
You experience enormous stress with eating and are looking for support to understand and overcome these challenges.
You truly want to be a healthier human
While body size might be a metric you care or once cared about, you want a health-focused approach that doesn’t make weight loss the center of everything.
The REVV Health process
Each non-diet nutrition therapy starts with an Initial Nutrition Assessment — a 1-1.5 hour deep-dive video call where I ask you questions like:
-
How do you feel about your current eating behaviors?
-
What messages about body image did you receive during your upbringing?
-
Do you experience any guilt or shame related to eating certain foods?
-
What is your history with eating and dieting?
-
Do you tend to eat differently when alone compared to when with others?
-
How much time do you spend thinking about food and your body?
- If you could wave a magic wand and change something about how you eat, what would it be?
Eating well involves many factors, some of which are beyond our control, such as social determinants of health. However, we focus on the elements you can control to help you feel energized and fulfilled.
“Thank you so much, Marissa! I feel hopeful and excited about this and about trying to eat healthy for the first time in a long time. You are so kind and knowledgeable and I really felt heard. I’m definitely going to add in these things 😃 ” — Mary M.
“Thank you for giving me the confidence, Marissa, that I need to remember who I am and to keep going with this. I really appreciate our time together and work.”
— Justin P.
“You really have a talent to bring nutrition education into a format that is easy to understand and motivates me to try to hit tricky goals, like fiber, that I’d otherwise not think about. I’m really going to miss your down to earth, no fuss advice!” — Daisy P.
