FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
+ In which states can you offer nutrition services?
I currently offer virtual nutrition therapy sessions exclusively in Washington state. However, I may be able to work with you if you’re in a different state, depending on your state’s nutrition licensure laws regarding medical nutrition therapy (MNT).
For parent nutrition coaching and general nutrition education, I offer nationwide services on a cash-pay basis only.
Please get in touch if you have any questions about your state’s laws or our services
+ How do I find out if my specific insurance plan covers nutrition counseling?
You have two options:
1. Take advantage of our free benefits check, where we can verify if you’ve reached your deductible and check your eligibility.
2. For a more detailed assessment of your nutrition session coverage, complete our questionnaire here.
+ Are there limits on the number of sessions covered by insurance per year?
Insurance coverage for nutrition counseling often includes limits on the number of sessions per year, which can vary significantly depending on your specific plan.
Typically, insurance providers may cover anywhere from a few sessions to several dozen, particularly for medical nutrition therapy related to specific health conditions.
To find out the exact number of sessions your plan covers, I have a handy questionnaire for you to be able to contact your insurance company directly for details on coverage limits for nutrition services.
+ Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for nutrition counseling?
Yes, you can often use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for nutrition counseling services, provided that the services are deemed medically necessary.
+ Do you assist with filing insurance claims or obtaining reimbursement for out-of-network services?
We do both.
+ If you are not in-network with my plan, but I still want to work with you, what are my coverage options?
Take advantage of our free benefits check, where we can verify if you’ve reached your deductible and check your eligibility.
Sometimes, you might have met your deductible, which means that we can submit a superbill (medical receipt) for nutrition services and get you partial or full reimbursement.
If you have not met your dedutible AND I am not in-network with your plan, you will need to pay out-of-pocket.
If this is a hardship and you would still like to work together, please see the next question about sliding scale options. We might be able to help.
+ If my insurance doesn't cover nutrition counseling, do you offer a sliding scale or payment plans?
I do provide a sliding scale fee structure to make our services more accessible. The sliding scale is designed to accommodate clients with different financial means.
Here’s how it works:
- We have a standard rate for our services.
- If this rate poses a financial hardship, we can discuss a reduced fee based on your current financial situation.
- The sliding scale allows us to adjust our fees to a level that’s manageable for you while still maintaining the quality of our services.
I encourage open and honest conversations about fees to ensure that financial concerns don’t prevent you from receiving the care you need.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss your specific situation, please don’t hesitate to ask.
+ What happens if my insurance denies coverage for nutrition counseling?
If your insurance denies coverage for nutrition counseling, we will first review the claim for any errors and resubmit it.
If it’s denied again, we can initiate an appeal process to provide additional documentation supporting the medical necessity of the services.
If coverage is ultimately denied, we’ll discuss payment options, including our sliding scale fees, to ensure you can continue receiving care.
My goal is to explore all avenues with your insurance before considering out-of-pocket expenses.
